Book mystery: How did Glenn Close’s name come to be dropped in a novel published in 1968?
O.K., that’s a trick question. The novel, an alternate-world tale called “The Woodrow Wilson Dime,” by Jack Finney, was FIRST published in 1968. In the other world that the main character enters, Paul Newman is a pharmacist, and a young woman is his assistant.
When the story was re-published as one of “3 by Finney” in 1987, the assistant’s name became Glenn Close … who had starred in a movie version of Finney’s “Marion’s Wall” in ’85.
That answers the trick question, but the real question is: What is the pharmacist’s assistant’s name in the 1968 edition of “The Woodrow Wilson Dime”?
The answer is toward the end of Chapter 6. Perhaps your local library has a copy of the original….
(Plz, no answers that look like w y l d e guesses. And btw, it’s a very funny story, especially recommended for dog lovers.)
Cary Grant?? You’re thinking of “I Was a Male War Bride”!
No, it was Cart Grant. The other answerer is right.
Is Glenn Beck for Real?

The story remains essentially t… |

Glengarry Glen Ross $5.09 Like moths to a flame, great actors gravitate to the singular genius of playwright-screenwriter David Mamet, who updated his Pulitzer Prize-winning play for this all-star screen adaptation. The material is not inherently cinematic, so the movie’s greatest asset is Mamet’s peerless dialogue and the assembly of a once-in-a-lifetime cast led by Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, and Alec Baldwin (the last in a … |
