Why is Glenn Close’s Character in Fatal Attraction thought to be insane?

and then he expected her to have an abortion…what a nasty man

A sane woman might have an affair with a married man, but Alex’s obsession with Dan turned into attempted murder. She stalked him, his wife & child – kidnapped the child, broke into his home, killed the child’s pet rabbit by boiling it, called him at home and at work incessently, lied about being pregnant, lied about how her father died, ……shall I go on? My favorite line from the movie is “I will not be ignorred, Dan”. lol
